LOCATIONS ARMAÇÃO DE PÊRAA thriving resort 3 miles from Alcantarilha, Armação de Pêra has a good selection of restaurants, bars and shopping facilities. There is a superb golden sandy beach and although it has developed quite quickly it still retains a lot of charm and character. A visit to the daily fish market is highly recommended. PÊRA Pêra is a typical old Portuguese village with winding narrow streets and alleways. The houses are Algarvean in appearance, with whitewashed walls and coloured boarders. It has an indoor market selling fresh produce ideal for keeping the fridge well stocked. ALBUFEIRA Albufeira is one of the biggest and liveliest towns on the Algarve coast. Despite the building boom of recent years it still retains a lot of character mainly in the old part of town with its winding streets cascading down the steep hills to the sandy beach. There is a wide variety of restaurants, bars, shopping facilities and it is justifiably famous for its nightlife. GUIA Another typical Algarvean village, Guia is famous for its many restaurants mostly selling chicken piri piri, a delicious charcoal grilled spicy dish always served with a mixed salad and freshly cooked chips. Nearby, there are excellent shopping facilities, cinema, yet more restaurants and even a bowling alley in the recently openned Algarve shopping center. GALÉ Situated six km from Albufeira and around three from Guia, Galé is a newly developed area now fast becoming established as a resort in itself. There is a variety of restaurants, bars, shops and cafes. The main feature of this area is however the beach, in places bordered by a vast expansion of dunes and even a nature reserve (at Salgados). It is also one of the least crowded in the Algarve even in the high season.
